
amazing where a conversation can take you. the boundary between reality and imagination is not one drawn in big, bold magic marker. it is not distinct. it serves not as a means of separation, but more as a bridge, a pipeline for conveying a fluid made of thought from one location to another.

they have amazing story- games that they play together. i can't even begin to count how many stories they keep in their heads. seldom is one finished before another begins. they don't really have beginnings, either. they just exist. float. always on hold. ready at a whim. but amazingly enough, as fluid as the stories are, they never mix. imagine colorful designs in oil on water.
then he saw the lizard outside the window.
ar:"LOOK, MOMMY!!! Look at the lizard! He can puff up his throat like this and it turns RED!" (moves like a chicken pecking for seeds) "why does he do that, mommy?"
db: "well, it's spring and he's trying to show off so he can find a lizard girlfriend so they can have baby lizards." we've seen so many birds nesting lately - dove, quail, osprey and hawk - some still on eggs, some with babies to feed already.
ar: -crossing legs and using his best Authority Voice he turns to wil and explains... "OH, so they get married and have babies..."
db: interrupting "well, not really married with a wedding and all, but..."
ar:never missing a beat, continues "OH, so they get engaged at least and then they have babies and do it the RIGHT way."
i wait. not a word.
